We have achieved unfathomable innovation in digital intelligence. Decades of progress, driven by Moore’s Law, have given rise to personal computers, mobile devices, the internet, and cloud computing. These technologies have become deeply embedded into our lives, converting once ephemeral information into carefully preserved digital footprints. We have models with billions of parameters that can analyze and understand vast amounts of information across the entire web. Yet, little of this substantial digital intelligence is translated into tangible improvements in the physical realm.
During the second industrial revolution, machines were outcompeting human labor through hard-coded task automation, powered by the widespread adoption of electrical power and programming in manufacturing. Today, with supercharged digital intelligence, we are in the dawn of a new revolution from bits to atoms, where machines are outcompeting machines, leveraging intelligence in the world of bits to transform capabilities in the physical world by orders of magnitude.
Bits to Atoms
Over the past decade, venture capital has failed to show up as courageous visionaries capable of fanning the flames of this shift. The technology industry has become buried in noise and hype cycles, with only a handful of firms consistently funding work on problems that are truly transformational. While outsized returns is the chief priority of the fund manager, that does not mean we have to compromise by funding anything less than the most meaningful technologies.
Ambitious problems are hard. Venture Capital alone is often not enough to bring truly enduring visions to life. At Xtal, we consider ourselves Venture Contributors, a conduit of resources for teams to realize bold and impactful visions.

Xtal is named after crystal oscillators — a foundational circuit component that sets a clock’s signal, typically appearing in the form of a square wave. The waveform symbolizes both the underlying rhythm of technology and the heartbeat of our people and ideas. Our goal is to nurture the vital early stages of innovation — as thought partners, builders, and supporters helping the best founders keep a steady pace towards their visions.
